Why do NWP models perform so well?
NWP models are a flexible and consistent method. They can be run anywhere in the world, at any height, at a wide range of resolutions, with or without observations, and for periods of 1 to 50 years.
NWP models are a weather solution to a weather problem. They are based on physics and meteorology and capture the complex weather patterns and wind behavior that impact wind projects.
NWP models generate both spatial maps and time series. As opposed to MCP, NWP models produce a robust 4-dimensional dataset where space and time are modeled together.
NWP data provide substantially superior results. While much more sophisticated, NWP data can also be used as input for the MCP approach and deliver greater accuracy—even at coarse resolutions—than commonly available data sources.
