Incorporation of Historical Solar Observations for Calibrating Solar Energy Forecasts One Day or More in Advance
Abstract Recent growth in installed solar capacity across many states in the US is beginning to raise concern among electric grid operators on the integration of this variable and intermittent resource. Utilities, balancing authorities, owners, and operators of solar energy plants will need production forecasts at time horizons similar to wind energy (i.e., from intra-hour to days ahead) to anticipate sudden fluctuations in solar power production.
