Importance of Knowing Your Wind Resource When Talking to Customers
GREAT EXPECTATIONS
This presentation describes the tools, techniques, and processes required to perform cost-effective residential wind resource assessments that can accurately set a homeowner's expectations of performance and lead to a good investment decision. Wind resource assessments can provide a detailed understanding of the wind resource available, the prevailing direction of the wind resource, and set reasonable expectations for the seasonal variability.
Basic assessments are a powerful tool for prioritizing sites and gaining a basic understanding of a site's potential, however, other elements must be taken into consideration. For example, a comparatively low resolution assessment such as this can not take into consideration the influence of local features such as barns, trees, or nearby hills. A skilled installer must combine a wind resource assessment with an understanding of how local site conditions and their customer's priorities will influence their decision. To best manage a homeowner's expectations, a skilled installer must combine a wind resource assessment with an understanding of how local site conditions and their customer's priorities will influence their decision.
