About 3TIER
3TIER and Risk
Three years ago, if you asked a 3TIER employee what the company does, the answer was straightforward: 3TIER provided renewable resource mapping, assessment and forecasting services. Our customers were primarily project developers and operators, and we thought of our products as a linear path through the lifecycle of individual projects.
Since then, 3TIER has doubled in size, and the answer to the same question would yield a more complex answer. In addition to our bread and butter assessment and forecasting business, you would hear about the advanced project forensic work we do to determine why some existing projects are not meeting production expectations. You would hear about our ever-increasing flow of comprehensive resource assessments for lenders, and the high level of trust we have built with debt and equity providers, to complement our work with developers. You would hear about sophisticated performance reconciliation programs we have in place, giving clients insight into wind performance across vast networks of met towers and turbines. Likewise, you would hear about regional power forecasting, which aggregates production forecasts and gives energy traders and grid operators tools for scenario analysis. And that is just a sampling.
The scope and complexity of what 3TIER does has expanded dramatically, fulfilling the increasingly sophisticated needs of a larger and more mature renewable energy market. Today, the stakes are much higher, and what all our services have in common is this: 3TIER helps those with a financial interest in the performance of renewable energy quantify and manage their exposure to resource risk. We do not just provide data. We give our clients relevant and actionable intelligence, and we give them the context they need to balance risk with opportunity. Today we serve a more diversified mix of clients, with a full range of services spanning project feasibility, energy marketing, and asset management.
3TIER's growth also reflects increasing recognition in the wind power industry, particularly among those performing financial due diligence, that integrating observational data and numerical weather prediction modeling yields more accurate and reliable results than more engineering-based alternatives which can ignore weather variability. Never has the reward for reduced uncertainty been higher, and 3TIER has carved out a clear advantage in doing this better than anyone else in the business.
Our solar product suite now mirrors that of wind, and we have gotten great traction in a short period of time. 3TIER conducted the bankable solar assessments for several of the world's largest solar projects currently being developed, and most of the projects approved under Australia's ambitious Solar Flagship Program were based on our assessments. Today, 3TIER is helping renewable energy stakeholders manage the risk of weather-driven renewable resources on every continent, and revenue from our international operations is rapidly approaching that of North America.
Since 3TIER's founding in 1999, we have been driven by the belief that our clients' financial success will propagate a sustainable future powered by renewable energy. Despite great progress in developing tools and information to help them manage risk, we feel that we have just scratched the surface. We look forward to working together in the months and years ahead.
