About 3TIER
3TIER Named one of "100 Fastest-Growing Private Companies" in Washington
SEATTLE, Wash.— 3TIER, one of the world’s largest independent providers of assessment and forecasting of renewable energy, was recognized today by the Puget Sound Business Journal as one of Washington state’s “100 Fastest-Growing Private Companies” for 2008. Based on a three-year company growth percentage, 3TIER ranked 24th, realizing a 200 percent increase in revenue.
“3TIER’s growth reflects the rapid development of the alternative energy industry, as the issues of energy independence and energy security become household discussions,” said Kenneth Westrick, CEO of 3TIER. “More specifically, our growth is reflective of our increased reputation as developers, financiers and operators turn to us for the information necessary to make the right decisions.”
Since incorporating in 2001, 3TIER has grown by many measures.
“3TIER has nearly tripled in size the last three years,” Westrick said. “We anticipate steady growth through 2009, as renewable energy development is on the ascent. Our staff has grown from 10 employees to 85 worldwide, with 65 in our Seattle headquarters. This month we opened an office in Washington D.C. and have an international footprint with offices in Panama and India.”
To remain an industry leader and promote future growth, science doesn’t stand still at 3TIER. 3TIER is constantly pushing the boundaries of science and technology to deliver innovative solutions to its clients. 3TIER’s knowledge about weather, climate and their impacts on wind, hydro and solar energy, allows clients to make better decisions about their investments. 3TIER’s suite of products work together to help clients (a) find the best location for a renewable energy project, (b) assess the resource available at any particular site, and (c) forecast the actual potential resource over all time periods.
“In just two years, 3TIER has more than doubled its wind energy forecasting capacity by simply delivering two things: accurate forecasts with excellent customer service,” Westrick said. “We have the best people using the best science, so customers get the information they need to make good decisions. Most recently, we took this formula of accuracy, backed by a team of scientific experts and more formally entered the solar industry, releasing the first-ever solar map or the Western Hemisphere.”
Last June, 3TIER affirmed its position as a market leader, announcing it was currently forecasting for more than 6,000 megawatts or 33 percent of the total 18,000 MW wind power capacity in the United States. This figure continues to grow, as today 3TIER forecasts for more than 7,300 megawatts of wind power.
3TIER was founded on the triple bottom line movement and reflects clear positions in environmental stewardship and sustainable development—last March, launching the “REmapping the World™” initiative.
Aimed at accelerating the global adoption and integration of renewable energy projects, the initiative made available, for free, a global wind map detailing the earth’s wind energy potential—eliminating the greatest barriers to developing alternative energies, lack of information.
“With more than 1.3 billion people around the world with no access to electricity, REmapping the World changes the way we look at the world’s renewable energy resources through sophisticated mapping technology,” said Westrick. “The map provides the critical information that has been missing to make renewable energy a viable choice – and resolve the issues around the availability, accessibility and useability of global renewable resource information.”
