3TIER Assesses Wind Energy Sites for Puget Sound Energy
SEATTLE, Wash.— One of the greatest questions confronting an electrical utility when selecting a wind energy project is “will it produce power when we need it; and if so, how much?” Today, Seattle-based 3TIER Environmental Forecast Group Inc announced that this is exactly the question that it addressed for Puget Sound Energy Utility.
“Puget Sound Energy has several potential wind project locations that it will pick from to add to its generation portfolio. It is a critical decisional challenge for PSE to select the right one, especially with Puget’s strong dependence on hydropower.” said Dr. Pascal Storck, 3TIER President. “Meteorological observations for these wind sites don’t extend sufficiently long into the past to make a full assessment of the energy potential. That is where our R-Cubed™ analysis will help them make this critical decision. 3TIER’s unique ability to examine both the wind and the hydro component will undoubtedly improve the overall assessment”.
An R-Cubed™ Analysis, an acronym for Renewable Resource Risk™ Analysis, is a comprehensive calculation of future power generation for a renewable energy project. An R-Cubed Analysis is created with a combination of high-speed computing, physically-based environmental models, advanced statistical methods, and renewable energy expertise. Over the past several years 3TIER has conducted R-Cubed™ Analyses for wind and hydro power assessments in locations ranging from the Canadian Rockies to the Colombian Tropics.
